Periodontal Treatments
Periodontal disease is caused by the toxins released by the bacteria in dental plaque which has accumulated along the gum margin for a period of time irritate the periodontal tissues (tooth supporting tissues).
Bleeding when brushing.
Gums appear red and swollen.
Gums recede, causing sensitive teeth.
Formation of periodontal pockets.
Bad breath.
Teeth drift and become mobile.
Our dental hygienist will provide tailor-made oral hygiene instruction such as proper tooth brushing and flossing technique.
scaling involves the removal of dental plaque, calculus and stains from the tooth surfaces so that the teeth become clean and smooth.
The aim of root planing is to eliminate the periodontal pocket by removing the dental plaque and calculus in the periodontal pocket and on the root surface of the tooth so that the periodontal tissues may re-attach onto the root surface.
A gingival flap is raised to expose the root of a tooth so that root planing is possible. This treatment is appropriate for managing very deep periodontal pockets.
The use of special laser instrument and fine optical fiber into the periodontal tissue, to inhibit the growth of bacteria and stimulate periodontal growth.
After scaling, your gum may become less swollen, causing gum recession. This results in the increase in interproximal spaces or tooth hypersensitivity, which are normal. After a recovery period, the situation will gradually disappear. The increase in interproximal spaces may cause food trap, but at the same time, it allows easier access for interdental cleansing aids (e.g. interdental brush), to clean plaque between teeth.
